Newcastle United fans have mixed opinions on Elias Sorensen after Dane bags 15th goal of season

The Danish striker has been in fine form for Newcastle United’s youngsters.

Newcastle United’s under-21s picked up an impressive win in the EFL Trophy yesterday, defeating League Two side Grimsby Town 3-2. It was a win that took the Newcastle youngsters record in the competition to three wins from three, meaning they advance as group winners.

Once again, one man on every Newcastle fan’s lips after the game was Elias Sorensen.

The 19-year-old Danish attacker has been in sensational form so far this season. His goal in this game took his tally to 15 goals this season and it is not even December.

His name is certainly doing the rounds among Newcastle fans on Twitter. Many of them feel it is time he was handed a first-team chance. The consensus among this group is that Sorensen is already looking a better option than first-teamer Joselu and deserves to be in the running for first-team action.

However, there is a counter-argument to that. Sorensen is still very inexperienced at the highest level and throwing him in at Premier League level could be a mistake. Instead, some Newcastle fans feel it would be better if he headed out on loan into the Football League first.

Or, even remain in the youth squad where he is guaranteed to keep playing and hopefully keep scoring.

It is a tough call for Rafa Benitez, who knows Sorensen is punching above his weight at his current level but may not be ready for the rigours of the Premier League.

Here is how the fans reacted…
