It looks like Newcastle United are set to lose Rafa Benitez as their manager. As reported by The Sun, the Spaniard is set to turn his back on the club despite an offer of £6m-a-year to remain. It comes after weeks of speculation involving Benitez’s disillusion at the running of the club and transfer policy.
The news will undoubtedly hurt Newcastle United fans, who have taken Benitez to their heart during his time on Tyneside.
However, the attention is already starting to turn to who might replace him. Garry Monk has already been mentioned and an out of work manager often seems most likely when Newcastle United are concerned.
Which has seen Roy Keane’s name thrown into the mix.

The Manchester United legend left Nottingham Forest over the weekend. He had been working as Martin O’Neill’s assistant but, according to The Irish Times, is ready for a number one management role again.
Indeed, some Newcastle fans simply can’t believe this is a coincidence.
It would be a shock appointment. Keane is a former Sunderland manager, which would not help his popularity. He also once famously got into an altercation with Newcastle’s favourite son Alan Shearer back in 2001. So he might not be universally popular among the Newcastle fanbase.
But the coincidental timing of both these reports certainly has Newcastle fans chirping on Twitter…
