Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez could be available this summer for as little as £25 million, according to Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by Sport Witness.
The Italian newspaper believes that could be the valuation of the Spaniard for a team competing in the Champions League.
Sport Witness also quotes the Italian press as saying any team that isn’t in the Champions League could land the player for £30 million.
The 25-year-old has been one of the Magpies’ best players this season; scoring 12 goals and contributing four assists.
He is quite clearly one of Rafa Benitez’s most important players and his loss would represent a hammer blow for Newcastle.
It remains to be seen who is interested in Perez’s services but this news could certainly alert lots of European clubs.
This news doesn’t make good reading for Newcastle fans. Perez is indispensable to Benitez and is a vitally important player.
To sign a player capable of producing what Perez has for the club will take more than the £25-£30 million being touted.
At 25 he still has several years ahead of him and he is expected to get better in the coming seasons.
It does seem a strange clause for a club the size of Newcastle to have in someone’s contract; especially a player as important as Perez.
Before it becomes common knowledge to a plethora of clubs, the Magpies would be wise to offer improved terms to the forward and erase the clause that currently allows him to leave.
