Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce wants to sign Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe, according to the Daily Mail.
It is reported that the Red Devils will only sanction a departure for the 21-year-old if they land Harry Maguire from Leicester City.
Bruce knows he must strengthen his defensive ranks prior to next week’s transfer deadline. He has previously signed the United centre-back during his time in charge of Aston Villa.
The 21-year-old played 30 matches in all competitions for Villa last season, helping the club into the Premier League.
Newcastle have added Joelinton to their ranks so far this summer and more new arrivals will be expected before the deadline.
The Magpies are ready to pounce should United complete a big-money move for Maguire. The Express reports that Leicester want £90 million in order for a deal to go through.
Tuanzebe is likely to only leave Old Trafford on loan. The England under-21 international penned a new deal at United earlier this month.
Although only a loan signing the arrival of Tuanzebe should give supporters a lift.
A young, English defender arriving would probably delight the club’s supporters, who have spent the majority of the summer disgruntled at club affairs.
Tuanzebe looks set for a bright future in the professional game. He starred at Villa last season and helped them to the Play-Off Final the season previous.
The youngster is strong in the tackle, good in the air and can pick out a pass, offering something different to Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar who are currently at Newcastle.
