Newcastle transfer news: Positive discussions held over Hakim Ziyech

Newcastle United have held positive talks with the representatives of Hakim Ziyech as they consider a potential move for the Chelsea forward in the January transfer window, according to a report from 90min.

Ziyech is one of the players Chelsea are ready to let go of in this window. The 29-year-old has been in and out of the side for much of this campaign. In fact, before his current run of four Premier League appearances in a row, the Morocco international had not featured in back-to-back league games all season.

Chelsea obviously now have a host of attacking players. And with that, they are open to letting Ziyech go. His representatives meanwhile, have spoken to a number of clubs.

Chelsea would prefer to sell Ziyech permanently. The Magpies however, would prefer a loan deal as they are not looking to spend large amounts in this window. But they are considering making a move if a good opportunity presents itself.

Ziyech has been an underwhelming signing for Chelsea. He arrived for just under £38 million in total. And he has only shown glimpses of his quality during his time at Stamford Bridge.

But he was formidable for Ajax before he joined the Blues. In fact, he scored 49 goals and contributed 81 assists in 165 games for the Dutch giants. And at 29, he could certainly have an impact on Eddie Howe’s side’s fortunes over the rest of the campaign.

He has ‘incredible‘ talent. And he may relish the chance to show what he can do elsewhere. So you would imagine that he would love the opportunity if Newcastle do follow up on their interest.
