Newcastle United’s problems in attack are no secret and they desperately need to try find some more support for centre-forward Salomon Rondon.
Ayoze Perez is one of the attacking midfielders that attempts to chip in with goals and he has managed two in 22 appearances so far this season for the Magpies.
The 25-year-old Spaniard managed 10 in the last campaign and could do with some fresh competition at St James’ Park for the number 10 role, despite the fact he’s featured on the wing recently.
Manager Rafael Benitez may be able to find that competition for a bargain £5.4million fee.
According to Calciomercato, Newcastle and Huddersfield are both keen on playmaker Miha Zajc from Italian club Empoli.
The 24-year-old creator wants to leave the Serie A club in January and is attracting suitors from England.
It is understood that he is likely to cost a maximum of £5.4million and he could move on a loan deal with a view to a permanent one.
Zajc appears to be very much an attacker built in the similar mould as Perez and the duo could be healthy competition for each other at Newcastle.
Zajc ripped it up in Serie B last season to help secure promotion with Empoli, scoring eight goals and supplying 16 assists across all competitions.
The Slovenia international has since adjusted well to the Italian top flight and is a technically gifted ace that is deployed behind the striker.
Newcastle’s reluctance to spend big on players if something that is damaging Benitez’s squad, but Zajc may prove to be a rare find in January.
