Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing a new right-sided defender in the January transfer window, which could put some pressure on first-choice right-back DeAndre Yedlin at right-back in the second half of the season.
According to France Football, the Magpies are interested in full-back Kenny Lala from Ligue 1 club Strasbourg.
The 27-year-old flyer is a rapid defender in great form this season in the French top flight and would be a great addition at St James’ Park.
He’s made 19 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and supplying six assists in return.
Lala is a speed machine that has been used in a more advanced role at times this season on the flank and would boost Newcastle’s attacking qualities.
Yedlin is the mainstay in Rafael Benitez’s side at right-back, but he could have his work cut out to keep his spot if they sign Lala.
The 25-year-old only has competition from Javier Manquillo this season, but the pressure would be cranked up massively if they added another recruit in January.
Yedlin is a decent option for the Magpies where he usually drops a 6/10 display, but Lala would offer a lot more going forward and be a signing that is a step in the right direction.
