Adam Armstrong scored a stunning 40-yard chip for Blackburn Rovers as Tony Mowbray’s side came from behind twice to beat Cardiff City on Tuesday night – and Newcastle United supporters reacted on Twitter.
Armstrong, 23, has been in excellent form for Championship side Blackburn this season – scoring 15 goals and creating seven more in 44 league and cup appearances. He has starred since the return to football last month.
Clocking up five appearances for Blackburn since the Championship resumed, Armstrong has netted three goals in five games but his latest effort was by far and away the best. With the score at 2-2 and only 20 minutes left, Armstrong struck.
A misplace pass from Cardiff midfielder Leandro Bacuna saw Armstrong curl a chip home from at least 40 yards, leaving Cardiff goalkeeper Alex Smithies in despair. The ex-Newcastle star posted a video of the goal on Twitter.
Armstrong initially joined Blackburn from Newcastle in January 2018 on loan, after just 21 senior appearances for the Toon – and no goals. A permanent move was secured that summer, with Rafa Benitez sanctioning a £3million (TalkSPORT) exit.
Newcastle supporters reacted on Twitter to the pocket-sized striker netting the wondergoal on Tuesday night, and some have suggested they would love to see Armstrong back on Tyneside ahead of the summer window.
