Newcastle supporters react as Jetro Willems posts cryptic Tweet

Jetro Willems has posted a cryptic message on Twitter as his future continues to remain in doubt following a loan spell at Newcastle United from German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt – and Toon fans have responded.

Willems, 26, joined Newcastle on a season-long loan from Frankfurt at the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign. He starred for Newcastle in the first half of the season, scoring two goals and creating three more in 20 Toon outings.

But during the early stages of a 1-0 win over Chelsea, the Netherlands international suffered a long-term knee injury that kept him sidelined for the rest of the season. It saw Newcastle bring Danny Rose to the club from Tottenham.

Since then, Rose has returned to Tottenham and reports claim he is set to join Serie A side Genoa – meanwhile Newcastle have spent big to bring Jamal Lewis to the club from relegated Jamal Lewis. Willems posted a cryptic message on Twitter.

Willems is certainly expected to leave Frankfurt, after he entered the final 12 months of his contract with the ambitious Bundesliga outfit. So, could a return to Newcastle really be on the cards for the ex-PSV Eindhove man?

Well, Newcastle supporters seem to think so. They responded to Willems’ post on Twitter in their drones, urging the Dutch left-footer to return to St. James’ Park which would see him rival Lewis for the left-back slot.

German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau claimed in August that Frankfurt could allow Willems to leave on a free transfer.
