Newcastle supporters react as club reportedly eye Marcos Alonso

Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to raid Chelsea and bring Marcos Alonso to Tyneside this summer as a reported takeover nears completion – and Toon supporters have reacted on Twitter.

Alonso, 29, has been in and out of the Chelsea side this season under Frank Lampard – clocking up 20 appearances in all competitions and even finding the back of the net on four occasions. He has a contract until 2023.

The Sun claim, though, that Spain international Alonso will be made available by Chelsea this summer as Lampard looks to recruit a new left-sided defender. Leicester City and England ace Ben Chilwell is at the top of that list.

Chelsea are also interested in FC Porto’s Alex Telles and Ajax ‘s Nicolas Tagliafico – meaning the chances of Alonso and even Emerson Palmieri of staying this summer are unlikely. Newcastle have initiated talks between the sides.

It is believed Chelsea want as much as £26million for the defender, who has previously played in the north east for Sunderland. Whether Newcastle will complete a deal, is likely to depend on an impending takeover.

Newcastle supporters reacted to the reported news on Twitter that their club are interested in signing set-piece specialist Alonso from Chelsea this summer – and some believe he would be a solid signing, while some do not.

Indeed, Newcastle are likely to be after a left-sided defender with Jetro Willems and Danny Rose only on loan.
