Newcastle supporters react as club reportedly eye Manchester United defender Rojo

Newcastle United are reportedly battling Sheffield United and two Spanish clubs for the signature of Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo – and Toon supporters have responded on Twitter, backing a potential move.

Rojo, 31, was omitted from Manchester United’s Champions League squad in the summer but was included in the Premier League list. However, the 61-time Argentina international has failed to make a single senior appearance for United this term.

He sits below the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With his £100,000-a-week contract ending next summer, the chances are he could leave in January.

The Athletic report that Rojo is interesting Newcastle with talks underway over a potential exit. Sheffield United are also keen, while two Spanish sides have made enquiries. The Toon might try to engineer a loan move for Rojo.

Newcastle’s lack of options at centre-back have been made apparent following recent injuries to Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar. Ciaran Clark has come in from the fringes, while Isaac Hayden has been used in defence.

Bruce wants to raid his old side for Rojo and Newcastle supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that their club could land Rojo – who has the same agent as Jonjo Shelvey, as per TransferMarkt. Some are open to his arrival in January.
