Newcastle United are reportedly looking to take advantage of Burnley’s inability to extend Jeff Hendrick’s contract by offering the Ireland international the chance to move to Tyneside – and Toon fans have responded on Twitter.
Burnley have released 28-year-old Hendrick as well as Aaron Lennon and Joe Hart, while Robbie Brady and Phil Bardsley have both signed new deals. It is believed Hendrick will leave on June 30, and not at the end of the season.
The 54-time Ireland cap has rejected the chance to stay despite clocking up a whopping 139 appearances in all competitions for Burnley, since joining the club in the summer of 2016 from Derby County.
Now, the Mirror have claimed Newcastle are looking to take advantage of the fact Burnley have failed to keep Hendrick, by offering the attacking midfielder the chance to remain in the Premier League next season.
Hendrick has been loosely linked with Scottish champions Celtic and Italian giants AC Milan, but the chances are he could be on his way to Tyneside. Nabil Bentaleb is only on loan, while Matty Longstaff has not signed a new deal.
Newcastle supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that The Toon are interested in signing free agent Hendrick following his Burnley release – and there is a mixed response on Twitter.
