Newcastle supporters react as club linked with signing Barcelona defender

Newcastle United are reportedly one of four Premier League sides interested in luring Barcelona right-back Emerson to the Premier League – and Toon fans have urged their club to complete the signing.

The Toon have been linked with a whole host of new players after reports of Amanda Staveley’s takeover bid being accepted have rung true. The new owners are expected to be announced soon, and that has seen plenty linked with Newcastle.

ESPN have claimed that the new-look board have made contact with the agents of Edinson Cavani, Dries Mertens and Willian, while Barcelona trio Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho and Arturo Vidal have all been linked.

Now, another Barcelona star has been touted as a possible acquisition. Indeed, SPORT claim Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton and West Ham have all made contact with Barcelona over signing one-time Brazil international Emerson.

The 21-year-old was signed by Barcelona little under 18 months ago from Atletico Mineiro, but is yet to make a single senior appearance for the La Liga leaders. Instead, he has been on loan at Real Betis, where he has scored three goals in 35 games.

Newcastle supporters reacted to the reported news that their club could look to sign Brazilian defender Emerson, and many Toon fans believe he would be an excellent signing – with the report claiming Barca want just £17.5million.
