Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle can see himself rejoining West Brom again this summer, according to the Shields Gazette.
The striker, who the Guardian reported in 2016 joined Newcastle for £10m, has spent the season out on loan with the West Midlands club and has scored 21 goals, including a weekend hat-trick over Preston.
And he was asked whether he could see himself going to the Hawthorns again next season, and said: “Yes, of course. I’ve really enjoyed the season and the fans have taken to me and showed great support.
“In the summer, I’m going to see what happens but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here.”
Gayle’s future appears tied up in any potential deal to bring Salomon Rondon to St James’ Park on a permanent basis but Newcastle should be careful about allowing a proven goalscorer to leave the club when they are so short on goal threat.
Gayle has never taken the Premier League by storm but he has shown he can score goals in the top flight, for Newcastle and Crystal Palace before that.
But with Rafa Benitez forever having to cut his cloth accordingly, Gayle may be forced to make way to fund a deal with Rondon and his comments make it clear that he would be open to that.
