Edinson Cavani will not play against Newcastle United this weekend. The Uruguayan would otherwise have made his Manchester United debut.

Newcastle United face Manchester United this weekend but they won’t be up against Edinson Cavani. Cavani signed for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team on deadline day and was certainly their most high-profile arrival.

But he can’t play at the weekend. Per the BBC, Cavani arrived in the country on October 4th but needed to isolate for two weeks. He will still be isolation when his team faces Newcastle, as a result.

The Magpies already know that their opponents are a striker down, of course. Anthony Martial misses the game, too, after his red card against Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

TBR View:

This is what Newcastle will have wanted. It’s now unclear how their opponents set up, given they’re missing one first team star and their new signing.

It leaves Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford as the obvious duo for Man United. Perhaps, then, we’ll see a 3-4-1-2 formation as Solskjaer used against Liverpool last season.

Regardless of what Solskjaer does, the fact is he’ll be forced to play a certain way. Man United can’t go out there in their preferred system, with their preferred players.

That immediately works for Newcastle, who will fancy their chances of getting something. Their opponents are struggling this season, of course, and will play on the back of a 6-1 thrashing.

What Man United really needed, then, was a fully-available squad. They won’t have that, though, and Newcastle will face a wounded opponent who aren’t at their full-strength.
