Newcastle signing reported target Olivier Giroud would be their best business

Newcastle United have had a fairly active January transfer window so far and have until Friday’s deadline to complete any business.

The Magpies have signed wide player Valentino Lazaro on loan from Inter Milan, as well as midfielder Nabil Bentaleb on loan from Schalke.

According to the Telegraph, Steve Bruce’s team have also agreed a £2million loan fee to take Tottenham defender Danny Rose for the rest of the season.

The Chronicle now reports that Rose is undergoing a medical ahead of a switch to St James’ Park, but that the club have now turned their attention to a forward addition.

It is understood that Newcastle will switch their focus to Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud once they bring in the Spurs full-back.

The report details that Newcastle have been monitoring striker Giroud this month and still have him on their radar, despite failing to sign him earlier in the month.

It’s believed that he’s available to take on loan for around £3million and Inter Milan have bowed out of the race for him.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports explains that the 33-year-old could be open to joining Tottenham amid interest from them.

Newcastle may be on the verge of their third signing in the shape of Rose, but Giroud would eclipse all of them if they could wrap up a deal for him late in January.

The France international may be frozen out of the picture at Stamford Bridge right now, but he’s still a powerful striker that knows where the net is and is proven in the Premier League.

He’s exactly the type of signing Bruce needs, as his team is lacking a presence in attack and the Chelsea star would be ideal.

Giroud has 78 goals in 225 Premier League appearanes during his career and would finally add the clinical touch that Newcastle are crying out for, while he could also be a great mentor for Joelinton.
