Newcastle United’s lack of investment is a constant topic for discussion around St James’ Park and supporters are desperate for some big-name signings to drive the club forward.
The Magpies paid £9.5million (Chronicle) for attacker Yoshinori Muto in the summer and he’s failed to make a serious impact, while they are being outspent by most Premier League rivals.
Manager Rafael Benitez desperately needs some more quality going forward and a goalscoring midfielder would be a dream.
Newcastle should turn their attention to Genk midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, who could be a perfect addition at St James’ Park.
According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma are interested in Malinovskyi from Belgian club Genk.
It is understood that Roma are trying to negotiate a deal for the 25-year-old to land him in the summer.
The report further details that Genk value the Ukraine international at around £11million and have turned down £9million bids from unnamed clubs already.
Malinovskyi is believed to have given the thumbs up on a move to Roma, but there are still negotiations between the clubs to take place.
The goalscoring midfielder is available at a bargain price and it’s encouragement for Newcastle that there are still some quality deals out there.
Benitez should plot an ambitious hijack for the Genk sensation, who could slot in perfectly to his team and has been excellent in the Belgian top flight.
Malinovskyi has made 31 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 11 goals and supplying 10 assists in return.
The set-piece specialist would be an upgrade on Newcastle’s current midfield options and is the type of signing that would show some level of ambition.
