Newcastle should take a punt on Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings

Newcastle United should consider moving for Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings this month.

As reported by The Dail Mail, Mings could be allowed to move if the Cherries complete a deal for Brentford’s Chris Mepham.

Midlands clubs West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa are both credited with interest in the player, who is way down in the pecking order at the Vitality Stadium.

He has only made 23 appearances for Bournemouth since his move in 2015, with a spate of injuries having restricted his playing opportunities on the south coast.

Fit again now though, Mings could do with a change of environment to get his career back on track, and perhaps Newcastle should be offering him a chance.

Newcastle need cover

Currently, Paul Dummett is the only recognised left-back at St. James’ Park, and he has been struggling with injury lately.

The Welshman is recovering from a hamstring issue and will be out against Cardiff City this weekend.

That could mean Rafa Benitez is again forced to shoehorn Ciaran Clark, Kenedy or Fabian Schar at left-back.

There is a clear need for Newcastle to get someone in in January – and Mings could be potentially good short-term cover until the end of the season.

Mings’ giant 6ft 5in frame make him very tricky to get past, and he has a decent turn of pace for his size.

Aerially, he is obviously fairly dominant.

Newcastle should certainly test the waters over a loan move, with cash expected to be tight once again.
