Newcastle United have reportedly had defender Kenny Lala from French top-flight club Strasbourg on their radar for the January transfer window.
According to France Football, Rafael Benitez’s side are keen on adding the full-back to the squad at St James’ Park.
But the Premier League team could now have a tougher task of signing him, as Spanish outfit Real Betis are now in the race for him.
According to RMC Sport, Betis are prepared to pay around £8million to land the 27-year-old and consider him a priority target for January.
Lala has been in great form this season in Ligue 1 and Newcastle should ensure they are not beaten to his signature by Betis.
The right-back could be a potential bargain if he settles quickly in English football, while he’s got the pace and defensive qualities to add quality to Benitez’s team.
He’s scored three times and supplied six assists in 21 games this season, which included netting against Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle could do with an upgrade on DeAndre Yedlin at right-back and set-piece specialist Lala ticks a lot of boxes for them.
Benitez’s side currently sit inside the relegation places of the Premier League and the injection of a few quality players should boost them massively.
