With two wins and seven points coming in their last three games, Newcastle United have put some daylight between themselves and the Premier League’s bottom three.
Nevertheless, January could prove to be an important month for the Magpies. Steve Bruce’s men have scored just 17 goals in 16 games, so it would be no surprise if they looked to strengthen their options in attacking areas while the window is open.
And perhaps one player that Newcastle have to consider targeting is Chelsea forward Pedro amid reports that he could be on the move next month.
The Telegraph has suggested that Aston Villa are chasing the Spaniard, with the Blues ready to let him leave in a cut-price move. It is noted that his contract expires in the summer.
His wages will not be cheap. Spotrac shows that the former Barcelona man is earning £100,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge. But given his contract situation, perhaps Bruce should consider a gamble.
Pedro has not played much this season. But his record suggests that he could make an impact on Tyneside to ensure that they keep themselves away from the bottom three.
He has scored 28 Premier League goals since arriving from the Nou Camp. Meanwhile, he has also provided 15 assists.
He is perhaps no longer at his peak. But he is a player that is still capable of game-changing performances when he is at his best.
And Newcastle should not allow Villa to land the Chelsea man unchallenged if he is indeed on the move when the window opens.
