Newcastle United are in desperate need of a new left-back in the January transfer window, as they don’t have any quality options behind Paul Dummett in their squad.

The Magpies should cast their eye on defender Jere Uronen from Belgian club Genk, who are in pole position to qualify out of their Europa League group.

The left-sided flyer has 31 senior international caps for Finland and is an impressive talent that would be a brilliant addition at St James’ Park.

According to the Sun, Arsenal are going to prioritise signing a new full-back due to uncertainty on Nacho Monreal’s future and are already monitoring Uronen.

The report explains explains Arsenal manager Unai Emery is yet to decide on his top targets, but the Genk ace is on his radar.

Newcastle should try to beat Premier League rivals Arsenal to the punch by offering him a switch to English football with them.

Uronen is an attack-minded left-back that already has four assists this season, but shown great defensive strength too on the European stage.

His contract is due to expire with Genk at the end of the season, which is why Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle would be very wise to eye a cut-price deal in the New Year.

The North East club need an extra body at left-back for the second half of the season and Uronen ticks a lot of boxes in terms of a full-back that can bomb up and down.
