According to the Sun, Inter Milan are targeting the signature of Edin Dzeko this summer.
The veteran Roma striker may well be available on the market. The return of Gregoire Defrel from his loan stint with Sampdoria, along with the presence of promising striker Patrick Schick, could convince Roma that the time is right to part with the 33-year-old. What’s more, Dzeko only has one year left on his current contract, so time is running out for the capital club to cash in on the No. 9.
However, before Inter Milan can land the 103-cap Bosnia and Herzegovina international, Newcastle United would be wise to enter the race for his signature.
The Magpies are in desperate need of a new goalscorer, following the expiry of Salomon Rondon’s loan deal and the departure of Ayoze Perez. On top of that, new Magpies boss Steve Bruce really needs to give the whole club a boost.
The arrival of the ex-Manchester City forward would certainly restore some optimism at St James’ Park. Not only that, but Dzeko also has the quality to have a big impact on Tyneside. The two-time Premier League winner would bring experience and quality to Bruce’s squad. He also has the attributes to effectively replicate the departed Rondon’s role as a target man.
He would not be a long term solution to Newcastle’s problems, due to his age. However, signing Dzeko would still be a major coup for the Magpies this summer.
