Christian Atsu deserves credit for the role he’s played at Newcastle United in recent years, but manager Steve Bruce should look to part ways with him in the next transfer window by selling him.
The Ghana international helped the Magpies earn promotion from the Championship in the 2016/17 campaign during a loan spell from Chelsea, which turned into a permanent £6million (Guardian) switch to St James’ Park the following summer.
He’s made 119 senior appearances for the club and been a decent option to have in the squad.
The left-winger has never put together a real consistent run of form, but has always shown a great work-rate in the squad and appears to be a likeable character around the group.
But ultimately Atsu has just eight goals and 10 assists for Newcastle, which highlights the lack of end product that has been holding him back in his career.
Bruce has the foundations of a solid Premier League team with a formidable defence, but supporters are crying out for much more in the attacking areas and that’s why he needs to focus on more goals in his side.
Atsu is unfortunately one of the forward players that needs to be upgraded if the club are going to try push up the league table.
His contract is due to expire in 2021, so they should put him on the market in the next window and he would surely be an interesting option for some teams in the Championship.
