Newcastle United winger, Allan Saint-Maximin, is wanted by Arsenal this summer but the Magpies must only sell if they are given something in return.
According to reports from Le10 Sport yesterday, the Gunners are one of a number of clubs interested in landing the French winger.
Having impressed in his first season in the Premier League, Saint-Maximin has become one of the hottest properties in the country thanks to some electric performances for Steve Bruce’s men.
And while Newcastle will want to do all they can to keep hold of their star man, if they can land Alexandre Lacazette in return then it would at least cushion the blow of losing Saint-Maximin.
The French striker’s future is still up in the air at The Emirates. Mikel Arteta has spoken this week of his hopes for potentially keeping Lacazette but he could be even more tempted to use him as bait to land Newcastle’s 23-year-old trickster.
Newcastle hold previous interest in Lacazette and Joelinton still isn’t firing
Back in 2016, Lacazette admitted (the Chronicle) that he had turned down an approach from Newcastle while at Lyon.
Of course, that is some four years ago and times have changed. But Newcastle needs a goalscorer and there is every chance that Lacazette could flourish being the main man in the northeast.
Goals are there for Lacazette. After all, it’s the reason why Arsenal paid just shy of £53m for him in 2017. (BBC)
Despite some criticism, the striker has hit double figures this season after notching 19 times in all competitions last term for the Gunners. Yes, those numbers aren’t amazing, but compared to Joelinton, they could be what’s needed to boost Newcastle to the next level.
This is a player who scored 37 times during his last season in France. At 29, he should be in his prime years and really lead the Newcastle charge under their prospective new owners.
Obviously, Newcastle fans will want to keep Saint-Maxmin. However, if a deal is to be struck, they could do a lot worse than land Alexandre Lacazette as part of any agreement.
