Newcastle reportedly want to sign £45m striker Graham Potter says is really 'dangerous'
Newcastle United were linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney over the summer.
Fabrizio Romano told Caught Offside that the Magpies had made contact over a potential move for the 26-year-old.
However, a move failed to materialise, and the former Newcastle man stayed put at the London club.
Romano recently suggested that the likes of Newcastle will have to wait until next season if they want to sign Toney.
The Bees ace has developed into a world-class striker over the years, playing himself into the England squad.
Toney has eight goals and two assists from 10 Premier League outings this term, including three goals from his last two.
With the World Cup looming, there’s a decent chance Toney will be on the plane to Qatar.
In the meantime, he’ll be hoping to get Brentford as high up the table as possible, with Chelsea up next.
New Blues boss Graham Potter, speaking to football.london, has sung Toney’s praises.
Speaking about his side’s next opponents, he said: “They align their resources really cleverly.
“The way they play fits the players they have and they are very organised around that.
“They know clearly what they are doing in all the phases, set-plays are very dangerous.
“And Ivan Toney as a centre-forward is as dangerous as anybody in the league in his way.
“They have a spirit and understanding and are really well motivated and organised and that is a credit to Thomas and his staff.”
Newcastle made a mistake when they let Toney go for just £300,000 back in 2018. Now, the striker is reportedly worth around £45million.
Could the Magpies persuade him to rejoin? After all, they’re a completely different proposition to back then.
