Newcastle reportedly want £13m 'Rolls Royce' once on Liverpool radar
Newcastle United will surely be active in the January transfer window as they look to consolidate their Premier League future.
The long-term future at St James’ Park looks bright in wake of their long-awaited takeover, but their top-flight status remains precarious.
Newcastle are yet to win in the league this season and are 19th in the table, five points from safety.
With Eddie Howe now in charge of the Magpies first team, he’ll get to bring players of his choosing to help steer the club away from trouble.
According to 90Min, the new Newcastle boss is looking at some of his former Bournemouth players for potential reinforcements.
One of those apparently on the Magpies radar is Cherries defender Lloyd Kelly.
The 23-year-old centre-back joined the south coast outfit from Bristol City for a reported £13million in 2019.
Kelly has clocked up 68 competitive appearances for Bournemouth, including 18 this season, of which 17 have come in the Championship.
He also captained the team earlier on this term while Steve Cook, last season’s skipper, was recovering from injury.
Former Cherries boss Jonathan Woodgate previously described Kelly as a “Rolls Royce” and “brilliant”.
He even said: “I don’t see him being at Bournemouth long, if he keeps on playing like that.”
As testament to Kelly’s quality, Liverpool were reportedly after him in 2019, before he joined Bournemouth.
Can Newcastle succeed where Jurgen Klopp failed in getting their hands on the talented defender?
