Newcastle reportedly want an English striker that Sam Allardyce loves

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in raiding Bournemouth to sign striker Callum Wilson if the Cherries are relegated from the Premier League – and Sam Allardyce has previously heaped praise on the England international.

Wilson, 28, has only managed eight Premier League goals in 34 outings this season as his indifferent form coincides with Bournemouth’s struggle towards the bottom of the division. But last season he showed just how good he is.

The four-time England international scored 14 goals and laid on 10 assists in just 30 Premier League appearances last term. But with Bournemouth close to relegation, The Express claim Newcastle want to sign Wilson.

It is believed a fee of £20million could be enough to sign the striker – who has 67 goals and 30 assists in 186 Bournemouth outings. Former Toon manager Allardyce was full of praise for Wilson back in 2019.

“He has been class for a long, long time,” Allardyce told Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports in January 2019. “As a goalscorer, he is proven. On the other side of that, his work rate and his hold up play is really good as well.”

TBR’s view – Wilson would be the ideal signing for Newcastle

A proven Premier League goalscorer and with Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron either side of him, the England international would score goals on a regular basis for the Toon.

Joelinton has struggled since his move to England, given that he is naturally a winger. The Brazilian lacks the predatory instinct to wear the number nine shirt for Newcastle. Wilson, though, would be ideal.
