Eden Hazard has been reportedly offered the chance to join Newcastle – a player Alan Shearer raved about in 2017, after starring against The Toon.
Hazard, 30, has struggled at Real Madrid since his move to the club from Chelsea in 2019. He has scored just five goals in 59 games for Madrid.
Madrid are keen to offload Hazard, given his lack of form and his astronomical wages. ESPN say Madrid are starting to offer Hazard about.
They say that they have given Premier League clubs the chance to land the 115-time Belgium international. Newcastle are Chelsea are included in that.
Whether Newcastle go for players with big wages and big reputations, or go more for long-term growth and look to build slowly – remains to be seen.
Back in 2017, Shearer raved about the Madrid winger – after he starred for Chelsea against Newcastle. Hazard got a brace in a 3-1 win over Newcastle.
“Unplayable – he was magnificent,” Shearer told MOTD, as per the Metro in 2017. “Newcastle couldn’t get near him on the ball or off the ball.
“He was so intelligent, his link-up play with Alvaro Morata was so good. His game had everything with it. He was running the show.”

Shearer on Hazard: Could Newcastle really get Real Madrid star?
Even though Newcastle can afford Hazard, the chances of signing the Chelsea icon seem near-impossible. They remain in the relegation zone.
Hazard is a player capable of Champions League quality and while he might not be at the top of his ability – he is still able to produce utter magic.
He is better than the current Newcastle. In a couple of seasons, that may change – but right now, Newcastle are below even a struggling Hazard.
Unless massive wages could tempt Hazard, we will not be seeing the Belgian superstar on Tyneside – unless it is an away game.
