A new era has arrived at Newcastle United, a club that has been punching below its weight for years now.

The Magpies are under new ownership, with a Saudi-led consortium taking over the club earlier this month.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which holds an 80 percent stake in Newcastle, reportedly has assets worth $360 billion.

This effectively makes Newcastle the richest club in the world, and the new owners have plans to transform the Tyneside outfit over the coming years.

Newcastle are now looking to appoint a new manager at St James’ Park after Steve Bruce left the club by mutual consent on Wednesday.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are looking at Paulo Fonseca, Frank Lampard, Eddie Howe and Steven Gerrard as potential replacements.

Lucien Favre is also reportedly in the running for the Magpies manager’s job.

But The Telegraph also claims that the Newcastle hierarchy have another task on their hands this week – talks with candidates for the sporting director role.

Over the past few weeks, a number of directors have been linked with the job.

According to Sky Sports, former Monaco and Lille director Luis Campos is a candidate for the Newcastle role.

Meanwhile, The Mirror claimed last week that Newcastle are looking at former Red Bull director Ralf Rangnick, currently Head of Sports and Development at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Former Paris Saint-Germain chief Antero Henrique is also in the running, according to The Mirror.
