Newcastle United are likely to be in the market for a new centre-back in the summer with defenders Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles picking up anterior cruciate ligament injuries in the last month.
Newcastle were hardly blessed with options in the middle of the defence anyway, Dan Burn moving from left-back to the middle to partner Fabian Schar in the week, during the 1-1 draw at home against Everton.
Lascelles is a blow given his leadership and his cover in the middle – but losing Botman is a massive blow. Probably Newcastle’s best centre-back, and his omission has forced Burn to move over from the left.
The Toon are hamstrung somewhat by Financial Fairplay and may need to sell one or two before they can go big, so a few smaller signings might be the order of the day – and Davinson Sanchez could be that.
Newcastle could turn to Davinson Sanches this summer
Turkish outlet Damga report that Sanchez, 27, is a target for Newcastle this summer. The report claims The Toon have sent an enquiry ‘letter’ to Galatasaray regarding a possible move at the end of the season.

Newcastle are not alone. Napoli want the Colombia star as a replacement for Kim Min-jae, who left last summer to join Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich. Other Premier League clubs are also said to be after him.
Galatasaray, who bought Sanchez from Ange Postecoglou‘s Tottenham last summer for just £13m, are willing to do business at a slightly taller price of £14.5m. He has been in and out of Gala’s side this season.
Tottenham form should convince Newcastle to look again…
A couple of niggling injuries have limited the former Ajax man to just 25 outings – though he has scored three goals this season. A player Antonio Conte once described as “reliable”. Spurs fans will disagree.
Sanchez falls firmly under the category of always having a mistake in him. A number of errors during his time at Tottenham are the reason he was sold for £13m, almost £30m less than the fee paid to sign him.
He would be a solid addition at Newcastle, even if he is at times a bit unreliable – mainly, because the Toon need the numbers at centre-back. But you would imagine there are better options on the market.
