'Newcastle, on it': Romano claims Magpies now in talks with 'incredibly prolific' forward

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Newcastle United’s pursuit of Goncalo Ramos.

The Magpies have been linked with the Benfica forward in recent days.

Pedro Sepulveda broke the news earlier this week, telling Sky Sports about Newcastle’s apparent interest in Ramos.

“Newcastle are going to make an official offer above €30m (around £25m) in the next days for Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos,” he said.

“The information I have is that Benfica coach Roger Schmidt prefers another striker for the starting XI.

“And if Benfica receive a good offer where they can reinvest that money in another striker, we can have a deal here.

“Benfica will never sell him under €30m. This deal will have some add-ons.”

Romano, taking to Twitter, has spoken of Newcastle’s intention to submit a proposal for the 21-year-old.

He also claimed that the Magpies were actually in “ongoing” talks with Ramos – their “new top target” – and his camp.

Romano finished by saying Newcastle were up against Paris Saint-Germain for the Portuguese’s signature.

Ramos is an ‘exciting forward rated as one of Europe’s top attacking prospects’, according to The Sun.

The 21-year-old burst onto the scene last season with eight goals and four assists from 46 games.

And this term, Ramos already has three goals and three assists from three games.

He has also impressed at international Under-21 level, with 14 goals in just 18 games for Portugal’s U21s.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig lauded Ramos in 2020, calling him “incredibly prolific” on Twitter.

Ramos seems to tick many boxes for Eddie Howe – talented, prolific, young, and seemingly available at a relatively low price.
