Newcastle United have reportedly offered AC Milan defender, Alessio Romagnoli, a £3.4m-a-year (£66k-a-week) deal to come to the northeast next season.
Romagnoli, who lifted the Serie A title with AC Milan last season, has been tracked by Premier League clubs before, with both the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool having expressed an interest.
However, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, it is now Newcastle who have moved to offer the Italian defender a contract to come to the Premier League. They claim that the Magpies have put around £66k-a-week on the table to Romagnoli, who had been expected to sign for Lazio this summer.

Of course, that Lazio move might still go ahead. Newcastle have been linked with a host of players this summer and the Italian is just the latest in that list of players. Interestingly, Newcastle have reached a breakthrough with Lille tonight to finally sign Sven Botman. That could mean Newcastle end with a formidable defensive partnership with Romagnoli and Botman.
Eddie Howe has been keen to strengthen his squad this summer after a remarkable second half to the season saw Newcastle put to bed any sort of relegation worry.
TBR’s View: Romagnoli A Dream Signing For Newcastle
Signing Botman is enough but if Newcastle managed to get Romagnoli in as well, then that would be quite something.
The AC Milan star is a class act and alongside Botman – or anyone for that matter – he’d excel in the black and white of Newcastle.
Of course, this report has come from nowhere really so it’s questionable how much credence there is to this news. But the good thing for Newcastle now is that they can actually be mentioned with these players and it not sound ridiculous.
Romagnoli will probably stay in Italy. But the thought of him in a Newcastle shirt is good one for the Toon Army.
