New Newcastle goalkeeper Jake Turner says Sammy Ameobi helped influence his decision to move to St James’ Park.
Speaking to Newcastle’s official website, Turner explained the influence of 27-year-old Ameobi on making his move from Bolton to the Premier League.
He said: “I’ve watched the Premier League and seen them playing, and I spoke to Sammy Ameobi who used to be here when he was a bit younger.
“He was saying that it’s a great club, and all the staff are great. Just from that experience, I couldn’t wait to get here once I heard about it. Sammy’s a good lad and I trust his opinion – he loved his time here. I can’t wait to get started.”

Turner will do well to force his way into Steve Bruce’s first-team plans at present, such is the amount of goalkeeping talent at St James’ Park at the moment.
But he seems keen to seize his opportunity in the top flight and has obviously done some homework on moving to the Magpies.
Newcastle clearly need more than younger talent like Turner if they are to make a real fist of the season, but being a player who are desperate to play for the club and progress should should see him make a good impression.
