Newcastle need attacking reinforcements, and Dele Alli could be perfect

Newcastle United have made a fairly average start to 2020/21.

The Magpies are currently sitting in 13th position in the Premier League table having amassed 11 points from eight games.

That may actually flatter them, with the team somehow playing out draws with Spurs and Wolves which could both easily have ended in defeats.

There is work to be done by Steve Bruce, who is already seemingly looking to January having reportedly (Shields Gazette) been to watch Siriki Dembele in action for Peterborough.

Newcastle have sometimes looked devoid of ideas in the final third and perhaps need to bring someone in who can link the midfield and the attack better.

One man who might be worth keeping an eye on, is Dele Alli of Tottenham Hotspur, who is seemingly not in the immediate plans of Jose Mourinho.

The 24-year-old was reportedly wanted by Paris Saint-Germain on loan during the last transfer window (Guardian), and may well become available in January.

TBR’s View – Newcastle should try to raid Spurs again

Newcastle negotiated successfully with Spurs last term over full-back Danny Rose, and should definitely try to sign Alli temporarily if there is any hint he’ll be let go.

At the moment, it seems the £100,000-a-week star (Spotrac) clearly needs a change of environment.

Mourinho has left him out of several matchday squads this season, and on his last performance for the club against Royal Antwerp he looked as though he was playing under severe pressure, and was substituted off at half-time.

A fresh start may be in his best interests, and if the situation is still the same come January, Newcastle should get involved with Callum Wilson probably in need of some help.
