Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez should make a play for Real Madrid youngster Sergio Reguilon if he stays on at St. James’ Park.
The Spaniard is currently locked in talks with owner Mike Ashley about his future, and fans are nervioualy awaiting the outcome.
Benitez’s contract with the club is about to expire and an announcement is due soon to inform whether he is extending his stay at St. James’ Park or leaving.
Practically all Magpies fans want to see Benitez stay put given what he has done with limited resources at the club.
Should he remain in charge, the 59-year-old should definitely consider raiding his old club Real Madrid for Spanish defender Reguilon.
The Daily Mail report that Reguilon is one of 14 players who could leave the Bernabeu this summer.
Zinedine Zidane is set to overhaul his squad, and the 22-year-old is apparently one such individual who has been deemed surplus to requirements.
Reguilon made 22 appearances for the club in 2018/19 after breaking into the first-team following his promotion from the club’s B team.
Most of those appearances were made under former boss Santiago Solari. The former midfielder was sacked and replaced by Zidane ahead of the Celta Vigo game on March 17, and the Frenchman then played Reguilon just twice.
Reguilon is a promising left-back who could potentially be the answer to a problem position for Newcastle.
The Magpies are known to be in the market for a left-back and Benitez, if still in charge, should use his relations with his former employers to land a potential gem.
