Joe White scored for Newcastle’s 21’s last week. His solo effort has got to convince the Toon to take action – amid interest from Celtic and Rangers.

White, 19, is out of contract at the end of the season. That is, despite the Newcastle talent shining for the club’s reserves – scoring last Tuesday.

The superb solo effort came in a 6-3 defeat to Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy. Picking up the ball on the right flank, he nutmegged a player.

He then went past another before managing to squeeze an effort past the Mansfield goalkeeper. But his future remains in doubt.

The Chronicle report that White is attracting interest from German and Dutch clubs due to his contract situation – as well as Celtic and Rangers.

From January 1, non-English sides can sign White on a pre-contract arrangement – with only a nominal fee of around £400,000 required.

Newcastle must take action – Celtic and Rangers have history

Celtic and Rangers are renowned from plucking some of England’s talent at a young age. Celtic took in Moussa Dembele from Fulham, selling for £20m.

Rangers have examples in their side too – Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo and more. So, either Celtic or Rangers could end up luring White north.

It certainly presents more of a chance of senior football, for clubs that are competing in European football. An exciting proposition for White.

With the tantalising prospect of a move to Glasgow, last week’s goal has got to convince Newcastle’s new owners and Amanda Staveley to take action.
