Newcastle must fork out at least £20 million to sign Jarrod Bowen

Newcastle United will have to fork out more than £20 million if they want to sign reported target Jarrod Bowen (Chronicle) from Hull City.

Tigers owner Assem Allam has been speaking about the club’s prized asset and has insisted they would not entertain offers below that figure.

Bowen has been ripping up the Championship and has 12 goals in the division so far this term, putting him one behind Aleksandar Mitrovic in the goalscoring charts.

So prolific has Bowen been of late, that nobody has more league goals across the top four divisions in English football in 2019 – he currently ties with Jamie Vardy on 24.

His brilliant form has obviously led to speculation about his future, especially with the fact that his current deal expires next summer – although there is an option for a further year.

Hull owner Allam said (ITV News Calendar): “We resisted six months ago and we hope we will be successful in keeping Jarrod again.

“I wouldn’t sell him for £20m.”

TBR’s view – Newcastle need Bowen

Given the current lack of goals in Newcastle’s attacking players, Bowen is certainly an individual they could do with.

He would be a big upgrade on Christian Atsu on the right-wing, and would allow Miguel Almiron to operate centrally.

Allam says he wouldn’t sell for £20 million right now, but that stance could easily change given the player’s precarious contract situation.
