Newcastle must act as Tottenham player seeks loan exit

Newcastle United have received a huge boost on Wednesday with The Athletic reporting that the potential takeover of the club is now expected to go through.

The news could be monumental for the Magpies. And the fans will be hoping that the takeover is the catalyst for a significant January transfer window for the club.

Newcastle have endured a poor start to the campaign. But it would appear that they are set to have the funds to make significant changes to their squad.

And one of the players they must target is Harry Winks, amid reports from The Times that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is keen to leave on loan in January.

Winks has been a peripheral figure so far for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. And in truth, it is hard to see the 25-year-old having a long-term future with Spurs.

His next move could therefore, put him in the shop window for a permanent exit further down the line.

For Newcastle, he may be an inspired addition. He would arrive with a major point to prove. And he would relish the chance to play regularly in the Premier League.

Winks is an England international who has previously stolen the show in Champions League games against Real Madrid.

And if he gets back on track, he may only just be approaching his peak.

Newcastle are a massive club. So Winks should jump at the chance to make the move – particularly if they are under new ownership.

It was in January of last year that Joe Willock decided to leave North London for Tyneside. And ultimately, his loan move played out better than anyone could have imagined.

Newcastle must strengthen their central midfield options in January. And Winks must surely now seal a move away before his career stagnates too much.

It seems that it may be a fantastic opportunity for both parties.
