Newcastle United are more likely to sign Lille defender, Sven Botman, ahead of fellow Premier League side Tottenham this summer, according to Pete O’Rourke.
Botman has been linked with a move to both Spurs and Newcastle in recent weeks. Indeed, it was claimed in the window that Botman was seen as Newcastle’s ideal centre-back signing. However, as we all saw, the Mags were never quite able to get a deal over the line.

The Lille defender is said to command a fee of at least £40m, according to The Athletic. But despite Tottenham expressing an interest in Botman along with Newcastle, journalist Pete O’Rourke believes it will be the Magpies who come out on top if it comes down to a bidding war.
“If it came down between Spurs and Newcastle over fee and wages, I think there’s only one winner, and that’ll be Newcastle,” O’Rourke told GiveMeSport.
Botman has impressed in Lille and respected journalist Duncan Castles has previously labelled the young defender as ‘super talented’.

If Eddie Howe can keep them up, then expect Newcastle to go big in the summer market to build on their impressive enough January transfers.
Botman was one of Newcastle’s top targets in January and it would be no surprise at all to see them go back in for him this summer. It’s worth remembering that Howe never quite got that star centre-back he was after.
The Dutchman is a class act too, in fairness. If Newcastle want that defender in the ranks to really improve them, then a player of Botman’s quality is the right sort of call.
