Glenn Roeder has called on Newcastle United supporters to give owner Mike Ashley more credit for the work he has done, in an interview with talkSPORT.
The Sports Direct tycoon has got the Magpies on the market at the moment but is yet to receive an offer that matches his valuation.
Supporters have vented against their owner previously over the lack of transfer activity during his time at the club.

On the pitch, Rafa Benitez has overseen a mini-revival of late.
His team have lost just once during the last six league games and rose to 13th in the league with last night’s 2-0 win over Burnley.
Roeder spent six years playing for Newcastle, making 193 appearances, before managing the club.
He believes some of the flak that is directed towards Ashley is untoward.
He told talkSPORT: “I am not saying embrace him but you could have a lot worse owners than Mike Ashley.
“He could have sacked Alan Pardew three or four times during a really rocky period but he stuck by him.”
Roeder had a 45% win ratio as the club’s manager between February 2006 and May 2007 and he thinks Newcastle fans should be careful what they wish for.
He continued: “They might be worse under a new owner.
“When he does find the price he wants, I hope the new owner has deep pockets to improve the squad.”
Benitez has called for reinvestment from the hierarchy and he would surely relish squad improvements.

Roeder’s comments are interesting, to say the least.
Newcastle supporters are unlikely to agree with their former boss.
It is pretty obvious that they unanimously want him out of St. James’ Park as soon as possible.
