Matty Longstaff is already on the radar of England’s Under 21 squad after his impressive Premier League debut for Newcastle on Sunday.
That match-winning display was Longstaff’s first top flight game and his only other start for the Magpies came in the EFL Cup earlier this season against Leicester, as per Transfermarkt.
But that lack of games has not stopped Aidy Boothroyd keeping tabs on his progress with an eye on including him in his age group plans, as per the Daily Mail.
They report that Boothroyd, and his assistant Lee Carsley, have both watched Longstaff personally and will keep tabs on him in the coming months.

TBR’s View – If Longstaff builds on weekend display, international recognition will soon come his way
Young English players doing the business in the Premier League are hard to come by these days, so if Longstaff establishes himself in the Newcastle side, it won’t be long before Boothroyd comes calling.
His brother was perhaps unfortunate with the timing of his injury or he’d perhaps be established in the age group setup by now too.
The pair of them have a real opportunity to connect with the Newcastle supporters, and that could result in England recognition down the line, in an era where the bond between the Three Lions and the fans is so strong.
