Newcastle United midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng could well be in line for a first Premier League start since September at the weekend when his team host Bournemouth at St James’ Park.
Manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that Yoshinori Muto, Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles are all likely to be absent from the league fixture at the weekend.
But that will open the door for players to impress and Shelvey’s absence leaves a huge void to fill in the centre of the park.
Ki seems the most senior and natural fit to slot into the side against Bournemouth, something he did when replacing the inured Shelvey in the recent win over Watford.
Ki has been a fringe figure since he arrived in the summer and has made just five first-team appearanes so far.
The South Korea international is renowned as a pass master that can help moves from the midfield and he showed his consistency at former club Swansea City.
He really can’t afford a bad day at the office against an in-form Bournemouth side and has to make the most of his opportunity to break into the side.
