Newcastle may be signing Alexander Isak 2.0, and it’s a major issue

Newcastle United supporters have endured a long and underwhelming summer transfer window.

The Magpies have lost out on several high-profile signings throughout the summer, with Benjamin Sesko’s decision to join Manchester United the latest blow.

Eddie Howe did manage to add Anthony Elanga to his attacking ranks earlier in the window, and Jacob Ramsey signed for Newcastle from Aston Villa in a deal worth a total of £43 million.

However, the biggest transfer story coming out of St James’ Park surrounds Alexander Isak and his reported desire to force through a move to Premier League champions Liverpool.

Although Newcastle have maintained the stance that the Swedish international is not for sale, the club have scoured the market for potential replacements, and the man who has now emerged as the primary target is facing an eerily similar situation to Isak.

Isak released a bombshell statement regarding his ongoing pursuit with Newcastle, further amplifying the dire situation in the North East.

As widely reported, the 25-year-old has downed tools with the Magpies after he refused to participate in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and is showing no willingness to reintegrate with the first-team squad.

Yoane Wissa is taking a similar approach at the Gtech Community Stadium as TBR Football understands Wissa is contemplating legal action against Brentford.

The player, alongside his representatives, believes that promises were made earlier in the summer regarding his future. However, sources have revealed to TBR Football that Brentford have downplayed such suggestions.

Newcastle saw a £40m bid rejected by Brentford on Wednesday, and amid the contrasting claims, the Bees are believed to be demanding £60m to allow the Congolese international to depart.

The ongoing situation at both clubs is unfolding as a public farce and is becoming increasingly messy with each passing day. A swift solution is needed so both Newcastle and Brentford can plan for the rest of the season.

Newcastle must find a swift Alexander Isak solution

Indeed, Newcastle are well within their rights to demand Isak honour his contract at St James’ Park, despite Liverpool’s British record offer, but the situation has spiralled out of control.

Howe will be answering questions about the forward well past the 1 September deadline, and his press conferences thus far have been dominated by queries regarding the situation.

Furthermore, his flat-out refusal to participate in first-team duties has led to Newcastle utilising Anthony Gordon as the central striker, which is undoubtedly nothing more than a short-term solution.

Understandably, Magpies supporters are divided by the best course of action, but one fact is abundantly clear – Isak has burned all his bridges and passed the point of return at Newcastle. It is in the club’s best interests to move on, especially if there is no conceivable way to retain Isak.
