Newcastle United could regret letting enforcer Mo Diame leave in the summer, especially if he goes on to enjoy success at a Premier League rival.
The 31-year-old midfielder is out of contract at St James’ Park at the end of the season, but has expressed his desire to remain with the Magpies.
“Staying at Newcastle will not be a problem,” Diame told BBC Newcastle. “The club know my position and that’s it. I’ve been playing a lot this season so it would not be a problem to find another team, but they know I want to stay.”
The uncertainty surrounding his future has reportedly seen a mad transfer scramble surface for him.
According to the Daily Star, Premier League clubs Brighton and Crystal Palace are keeping an eye on the powerhouse.
It is understood that Besiktas and Galatasaray are also keen on a potential swoop when he would be available for a free transfer.

Newcastle should see interest in Diame as a sign that he’s still a good player and as a result hand him a new deal to fend off interest.
The Senegal international has been a consistent performer during Rafael Benitez’s reign and gets through tons of work in the centre of the park.
He is a major part of the engine room in midfield when he plays and Newcastle need to be strengthening their squad not weakening it going into next year.
Diame has the potential to go be a useful addition at top-flight rivals Palace of Brighton, which would highlight a real bad bit of business for the the North East club.
