Newcastle United are reportedly interested in trying to secure a temporary deal for Borussia Dortmund attacker Maximilian Philipp.
According to the Chronicle, the Magpies are keen on landing the 24-year-old on loan for the rest of the season and scouts have watched him recently for the Bundesliga club.
It is understood that Dortmund have turned down a loan approach from Stuttgart this month, but they are prepared to sell him in the January transfer window.
The report details that the German is valued at around £19million and it remains to be seen if Dortmund would be open to a loan-to-buy deal.
Newcastle should ramp up their interest in Phillip to at least try sign him on loan, as he could be the player to save their season in the Premier League.
Phillip is currently struggling for minutes at Dortmund and made just 15 appearances across all competitions this season, but is a massive talent with huge potential.
The centre-forward has 11 goals in 43 games during his time with Dortmund, which is impressive considering the amount of substitute appearances.
He is a dazzling striker that can be clinical in the penalty area and made a name for himself with previous club Freiburg.
Newcastle need some extra goals in their side other than Salomon Rondon and they will have a serious goal threat if they land Philipp.
Rafael Benitez’s side have the defensive platform to succeed in the Premier League and a regular goalscorer may be the difference in helping them climb out of the relegation places.
