Newcastle United have reportedly joined the race to sign Real Betis youngster Assane Diao, with Manchester United also interested.

According to Estadio Deportivo, the Magpies have joined the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and the Red Devils in the race to sign the teenage winger, who has a release clause worth €30m (£25m).

Diao has enjoyed a breakout year with Betis having made 11 senior appearances this campaign and scoring four goals in all competitions.

And interest is now beginning to build around Diao, with Newcastle joining the race for the versatile attacker as a move to the Premier League begins to loom over the Spanish youth international.

Indeed, Newcastle could be an ideal move for Diao, yet with interest from the likes of Liverpool and United, there are certainly more appealing options out there in the market.

However, St. James Park could be where Diao finds himself as a player, with Eddie Howe already having a good record of playing younger names and developing them into something exciting at Newcastle.

Diao is clearly on his way to becoming one of Europe’s most exciting attackers, and Newcastle have to ensure that they are the club who sign the winger next year.

The Magpies have all the money in the world to hover up every single world-class prospect that is out there on the market, and Diao fits that category to an absolute tee.

Moreover, with Newcastle starting to establish themselves as a player in Europe again, Diao could be eager to make the move from Andalusia to Tyneside for one of football’s most exciting projects.

Competition might be stiff, but Newcastle have the reputation to lure anyone in world football, and Diao might be sold on the idea of playing for the Magpies.
