Newcastle United have been told that signing former Arsenal midfielder, Aaron Ramsey, would be a no-brainer as Eddie Howe looks for new additions in January.

The Toon have been credited with holding an interest in Ramsey. The Express has reported that both Newcastle and Everton are keen, although the Welshman’s £12m-a-year wages could prove problematic for potential suitors.

Of course, paying the money won’t be a problem for Newcastle. The takeover from PIF means January is likely to be an exciting time for the Toon Army. And according to former Arsenal midfielder and now Talksport pundit, Jack Wilshere, Newcastle should be trying to get Ramsey.

“He would be a great signing for them. It’s a massive club, Newcastle. He obviously had a successful spell at Arsenal, went to Italy, he hasn’t played as much as he wanted to,” Wilshere told Talksport.

“He’s probably wanting to get back here, he’s got a young family. He can go to a] big club, who are potentially going to be even bigger in the next four/five years.”

Ramsey had found his time in Italy a struggle. Despite being a regular of the first-team squad, Ramsey has made less than 100 appearances for Juventus. Indeed, the Turin giants are thought to be open to letting him go.

The fact is, Newcastle need some proven players in January and Aaron Ramsey is in that bracket. He is a goalscoring midfielder and has Premier League experience already. Sometimes, that alone is worth paying the money for.

Of course, Newcastle need to be careful with the Championship potentially looming. But PIF have the funds, and January is the time for them to show the fans they mean business.

Bringing a player like Aaron Ramsey in, like Wilshere says, would be a smart move by the new Toon owners.
