Newcastle United’s poor start to the season has been down to a number of things, but perhaps the most alarming issue is the home form at St James’ Park.
The Magpies are the only team in the Premier League not to pick up a single point at home so far this campaign, which is why they are being tipped with a relegation battle.
Newcastle have lost to Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Leicester City already in their own backyard, which is a difficult set of fixtures on paper to negotiate.
But they accumulated six points from the same set of home fixtures in the 2017/18 season and it’s imperative that teams try to make their own ground a fortress.
Rafael Benitez’s side picked up 28 of their 44 points at St James’ Park last season and that played a major role in them staying clear of relegation trouble.
The North East club are 19th-placed in the table and without a win all season during the international break, leaving Benitez in a dangerous position amid reports his future could be on the line in the next three games.
Newcastle can certainly get their season on track with some positive displays at home and St James’ Park can be a difficult place for opposition when it’s in full voice.
They host Brighton, Watford and Bournemouth in matches after the international break, where the minimum target really has to be at least six points.
