Newcastle’s potential new owners have reportedly made contact with the agent of Chelsea star Willian ahead of a free transfer in the coming months – and Toon legend Alan Shearer is clearly a big fan of the Brazilian attacker.
ESPN have claimed that Willian, who turns 32, is one of three players that have been targeted by Newcastle’s new-look boardroom – who are reportedly close to announcing themselves as the new owners of the Tyneside club.
Indeed, a takeover is said to be announced in the coming weeks. The report states they want to bring Willian to the north east and have made contact with the player’s agent in a bid to tempt the player to move to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle legend Shearer, who is waiting for an announcement before becoming excited over a potential takeover, once heaped praise on Willian back in March 2018 – claiming the Brazilian is “so, so good” and he can be “impossible to stop”.
“I think he’s so, so good Willian when he gets the ball at his feet,” Willian said, as quoted by the Express. “He shifts it just one or two yards to the right-hand side of him and it’s almost impossible for someone to stop him.”

TBR’s view – Signing Willian could bring the best out of Almiron
Luring Willian to Newcastle would see The Toon change their formation. Currently, in the final third, Newcastle play with Miguel Almiron on the right, Allan Saint-Maximin on the left and Joelinton up front.
However, landing Willian would surely see whoever is in charge – Steve Bruce or not – move Almiron into his preferred number 10 role. That would free up the right flank for Willian, and bring the best out of Almiron.
