Newcastle United are one of the clubs who have registered an interest in signing one striker ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Magpies have endured a tougher campaign this season. And they are going to have to produce a brilliant end to the year to force their way back into the top four.

Eddie Howe’s side however, still have a very bright future ahead. And after a very quiet January transfer window, plenty of eyes will be on what Newcastle do in the summer.

Newcastle one of the sides to have registered interest in Jonathan David

It seems that a new striker may be on the radar. According to a report from Football Transfers, Newcastle are one of the sides who have registered an interest in signing Jonathan David.

There are plenty of Premier League teams keen on landing the Canada international, including Aston Villa and Chelsea. Brentford meanwhile, have their eye on David as a potential replacement for Ivan Toney.

A striker with huge potential

Football Transfers notes that David will cost around £42.5 million. So he will not come cheap to the sides who are wary of their status in relation to the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

But he would have the potential to be a bargain for that sort of price. David has scored 71 goals in 166 games for Lille in all competitions. He has scored eight times in 21 Ligue 1 games this season. That includes five in his last nine league appearances.

David only turned 24 last month. So he has plenty of time to improve further. He has been labelled a ‘fantastic’ striker previously. And Howe has worked wonders with a number of players during his time on Tyneside.

So it would certainly have the potential to be a real coup for Newcastle if they could end up winning the race for his signature in the summer.

But clearly, there are plenty of sides who would love to bring him in at the end of the season.
